About John
Just after I (John) finished my bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University-Hawaii, I started working as a personal trainer for a large commercial gym. During that time I decided it was important to get certified as a personal trainer and, because my love was training athletes, I thought it was important to become certified to train athletes also. I researched to find out what the top certifications were and know I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM-PES), a Certified Personal Trainer (NCSA-CPT), and a Health and Fitness Specialist (ACSM-HFS).
After working for this gym for a few years, I had the great opportunity to work for Athletes’ Performance. It was by far the best thing I have ever done. There I learned how to train elite level athletes. I was able to train individual NBA, NFL, MLS, and NHL athletes. Along with that I worked with many different teams also, including the LA Galaxy, (I was there for the inauguration of David Beckham) Chivas USA, Men’s and Women’s National Soccer Teams, and Everton Football Club.
I learned many great things there. Many of those things I want to put out on this site. But most of all I learned how to help an athlete move better. Not just run faster/quicker, jump higher, etc… but how to do those things in a more efficient manner that will avoid injury later on. I have been able to take some of the most powerful, talented athletes around and humble them with very simple exercises. What I learned to do was to find an athlete’s weaknesses in their movement and attack those things to make them strengths. With that alone I have been able to increase speed, vertical leap, power, etc. (see Testimonials). Then after that I focus on those areas (speed, power, etc.) and we find even greater increases.
I am now working on my Master’s degree From Brigham Young University. I am studying Exercise Physiology. I am also training at a local gym. My clientele includes athletes of all sports and individuals with weight loss and muscle gain goals.
My philosophy is to always train for increases in performance. I want the lawyer to perform better in the court room, I want the soccer mom to perform better at the soccer games, and I want the athlete to perform better on an off the field. If you are not seeing improvements in how you perform in your activities you probably aren’t doing the right program.
