I think the excuses come from a combination of reasons. One is that it is hard to see the end result. The process is hard and usually long, especially when it comes to health and fitness, and giving up something we enjoy now doesn't always seem worth what we can't see right now. I have some pretty lofty goals for myself considering my fitness history, and while I am so incredibly close compared to where I used to be I have asked myself so many times if it's worth it. I've been very close to quitting because I couldn't decide if it was really worth it. We have to have a picture in mind of the end result, we have to know why we're doing it, and we have to know that it's worth it and then focus on that every time we try to make excuses.

I found that very helpful, thanks! You're so right. If I have the time I go for the bike instead of the weights. I'll change up my priorities. It seems like whenever I weight lift I just get buff instead of slimming down. That could be in my head though :)

Thanks John, good thoughts. If success is the only option, excuses are not an option.

John, I really liked this one. I recently read an old talk by President Boyd K Packer entitled "Music and the Spirit of the Lord" He talks about the idea of having your ladder leaning against the wrong wall as well, but focussing on perhaps the wall your leaning on is not a wall supported by the Lord. And also I remember hearing a story about a professional violinist who worked for 35 years, practicing 8 hours every day to get where he was. After one of His concerts a man raced up from the back of the concert hall shook the mans hand and said, "I would give anything to be able to play the violin like that, that was amazing!" The violinist looked back at him somberly and said, "would you be willing to practice 8 hours a day for 35 years?" The same concept you were talking about, I have goals concerning my health, but I'm not sure I'm ready to do what it takes yet. Can you tell me, how can I better motivate myself to do what it takes to improve my health, and what can I do to start small being that I am very busy and involved in other area's of my life? Thanks John, your great!
